Frequently Asked Questions
Crops - FAQ's
Are you an "Organic" farm or do you grow "Organically"
While we are not a certified organic farm, we do not apply any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides to the crops that are grown "bio-friendly." We improve our soil composition by using composts and growing cover crops to replace organic matter. Sorghum is grown behind pickles to replace the nutrients that were robbed during the growing process. Iron clay pea, a legume, is grown behind corn to replace nitrogen. These crops also help to starve the "bad" bugs and promote the "good" bugs.
Do you use pesticides and chemicals?
Yes. Florida's high heat and humidity often require that we spray certain
chemicals to help us alleviate fungus and insect pressures. We do, however,
use only the most necessary amounts. Technological advances have also made
it possible for us to use products that are environmentally friendly. We
also use beneficial insects in certain crops.
What type of corn do you grow to eat?
Scott's Zellwood Sweet Gourmet Corn is a triple-sweet, bicolor, extra-tender variety. Our corn is hand picked daily.
Is your corn genetically modified?
No, the corn is not genetically-modified. All corn/vegetable seed is bred for the qualities which are desired. This is not the same as genetically modified . Seeds are crossed with similar varieties to obtain the better variety such as our bi-color corn, which is a hybrid in that respect. When something is genetically modified, the structure, strain or or variety is changed by adding something, ie. resistance to Roundup or and an insecticide etc. We do not use GM's, however we do trial for the correct variety to satisfy our particular needs.

Please note the rough terrain and be cautious as you walk. Shoes are required; comfortable, closed-toed shoes are suggested. Sun screen, water and a hat are all a very safe addition.

We have many portable restrooms around the property, plus a portable hand washing sink.
Are hand-washing stations available?
Yes, we do have two hand-washing stations. One is located in the maze area and one is near the Market. We also encourage teachers to bring hand sanitizer.
Are drinking fountains available?
We do not have drinking fountains. Drinks are available for purchase from our Food Vendors, our Country Market and we sell water on the Bridge in the big maze. You are welcome to bring your own drinks.
Is there a gift shop on-site?

How many adults should attend?
We love parent participation and encourage as many adults as would like to attend. However, we ask that there be at least one adult per 8 children.
Will young children enjoy the maze?
Yes. They may grow tired before completing the entire maze, but there are exits available throughout the maze. You can use the map on the back of your game sheet and ask the Maze Master on the Bridge for help getting out of the maze. You may also bring a stroller, the bigger the wheels the better. Children should ALWAYS be accompanied by an adult in the mazes.
We would like to just go through the mini corn maze, do we have to pay the regular admission into the maze?
Yes. The Maze area is all inclusive and we do not separate any of the activities within it. Hay Rides & Farm Tours are extra. Please see 'Hayride & Farm Tours'.
Are we allowed to bring food and drinks to the farm?
Yes, we have several covered picnic areas for you to enjoy. You may bring small coolers and sack lunches. We do not have any local delivery companies available. NO ALCOHOL please. You must pay the admission fee to enjoy the picnic areas as they are all inclusive of our Maze Adventure Area.
Can we bring our Dog with us to walk through the maze?
No animals on the Farm, we are a working vegetable farm and due to Food Safety Regulations we are NOT permitted to have any pets with the exception of Service Animals ONLY.
Is it going to rain?
Very often it may be raining where you are but not at the farm and vice-versa. Please check local weather website for a forecast and current conditions.
What if it does rain?
We offer a rain check should it rain for more than 2 consecutive hours. The rain check will be good for the entire fall maze season. We do not give refunds.
How long does it take to complete the maze?
Depends on how diligent you are, it could take up to 2 hours for you to find every station in the Maze. A few groups have completed our 6 acre mazes in 45 minutes, that means they found every station. You are welcome to get out anytime you reach an exit or you can ask the Maze Master for help to reach an exit.
What if we get lost?
Each group entering the Maze receives a flag, if you need assistance or are really lost raise your flag and our Maze Master will help you. You can not really get lost for long in a maze, keep walking and if you are trying to get out then stay to one side only. Making all right turns OR all left turns gets you out of a maze but does not guarantee that you will see every path. With perseverance and a bit of deductive reasoning you will solve the maze. We will have a Maze Master and some employees along the way that you can ask for assistance.
Can we take strollers, and wagons through the maze?
While the maze is an active cornfield, strollers and wagons can be used in the maze. However, as more people visit the maze the paths will become harder and smoother. The larger the wheels the better.
Can we take wheel chairs through the maze?
Our Corn Maze is a live growing field with sandy dirt paths. Most of the paths will be packed down once guests start walking the maze, there will always be loose sandy areas. Manual wheel chairs will go through the maze, in some area easier than other areas. Motorized chairs have a much more difficult time, depending on the weight. We do have a bridge with steep steps and some have been able to carry lighter chairs and/or riders up and over. That will depend on your companions. You can back track and take other paths to get you around in the maze. We want you to be aware that getting over the bridge in the Maze is not something that our employees will be responsible for or that we suggest. We do not promise that wheelchairs will not get stuck.
